And, such incidents impel us to think about all that can be done to avoid such situations. Of course, you need to be careful to avoid such accidents, but even if they occur, you must be prepared beforehand so that you can minimize the loss. Seeing that cables create a major mess during fires as they emit harmful gases and black smoke, people often get stuck in the problematic zone due to poor visibility and difficulty in breathing.  Unlike the construction of ordinary cables, these cables are made in a different way. The conductor is manufactured with a specially designed heat barrier and fire resistant insulation which resists the fire to reach the conductor surface. The cable continues to remain into operation at high temperatures like 650°C, 750°C and 950°C as per various conditions of operation and applications.

 The fire survival cables are manufactured and tested in accordance with industry standards for required temperatures and duration – depending upon the application of cable and site conditions. Havells fire survival cables are manufactured using the components like annealed plain copper conductor, heat barrier over the conductor, cross linked polyethylene, galvanised steel armour, and zero halogen & low smoke (ZHLS) compound. The ZHLS compound ensures the least smoke and thus, increased light transmission during burning of cables. The circuit integrity of Havells FS cables at high temperatures remains unaffected for the required time period as per the specification defined.

Considering all the above-mentioned aspects, it is sane to invest in fire survival cables. The cables are ideal to be installed at airports, refineries, shopping malls, hotels, metro stations, cinemas/theaters, hospitals, power plants, stadiums and places with high human concentration.
